The Experience & Investment

My approach

I would describe my style as Fine Art Documentary photography.

But what does that actually mean?!

As a fine art documentary photographer, I combine candid, unposed moments that capture the true emotions of your day with a few carefully guided portraits. I will document your wedding as it naturally unfolds, without constantly posing you or your guests. But I want to do more than simply record your day. I also want to bring a little artistic flair to your photographs, creating beautiful portraits and detail shots that showcase the thoughtful choices you made for your wedding in an elegant way.

Fine art photography is less about forced poses and harsh artificial lighting, and more about creating a soft, dreamy look through natural light, considered angles and the beautiful backdrops your venue provides. I love fine art wedding photography because it feels so romantic and timeless.

Are you choosing between editorial and fine art photography? Editorial photography is often more posed and structured, with a stronger use of flash to create vibrant, high-contrast images. I do use flash for evening and dance-floor photographs, but I much prefer natural light wherever possible. I also know that most couples do not want to spend ages posing or being guided into awkward positions. My aim is to create beautiful, artistic images that would be worthy of your walls, while keeping the experience natural and relaxed.

I will already have an idea of the best locations at your venue, based on the weather and light on the day. You have both spent a lot of time and care on how you look, and you are in love, so I want you to soak in the moment together. I will gently guide you when needed or rearrange your dress to show it off, while you remain happy and relaxed. There will still be some direction from me, but this is not a fashion shoot; it is your wedding day.

I want your day to be beautifully documented and your portraits to feel timeless, but the dance floor is all about celebrating and having fun. At that point, I want to blend into the dance floor and capture you and your guests letting loose and enjoying yourselves.

After your wedding day, I will carefully edit every photograph in my signature style. I do not outsource my editing. I have a keen eye for detail, so you will not see fire extinguishers in the corner or distracting hotel signs in your photographs. I keep the colours true and the overall style timeless. Most of your gallery will be in colour, with some black-and-white photographs too. I keep the blacks soft, giving them an almost velvet-like feel.

I also will not deliver 1,000-plus photographs. I would much rather send you 500–700 carefully chosen images, each meticulously edited. Beyond that, it can become overwhelming to look through your gallery or decide which photographs to print. Before your wedding, we will create a list of your group photos and any other important moments that might not be obvious, such as a photograph with an old friend or a detail of the venue that helped you choose it. Every wedding is unique, and I want to know what truly matters to you.
